Plan Sudan

Plan has been operating in Sudan since 1977, helping marginalised children to access their rights to health, education, water and sanitation, and protection.

Today we work with about 500,000 children across the country - including Kassala, White Nile, North Kordofan states, Darfur as well as Red Sea state.

Plan Sudan works with children, their families and communities to identify major problems and implement solutions.

Plan South Sudan: what we do

Plan South Sudan’s core areas of activity include:
  • improving access to basic education
  • sustainable livelihoods
  • good governance for peace building and child protection
  • disaster risk reduction, preparedness and humanitarian response.
Plan works to ensure that disadvantaged children have access to basic education -  especially girls, who tend to have lower school access and retention rates than boys.

Plan also supports the provision of technical and vocational training in South Sudan so that youths who missed education due to war have a means of sustainable livelihood.

We also address issues that adversely affect children’s education - such as poor health, child protection, birth registration, household economic insecurity, emotional distress, HIV and AIDS.

Plan South Sudan

Plan has been working in South Sudan, including before its independence, since 2006 - helping poor children to access their rights to education, health, protection and economic security.

We work with more than 20,000 children - mainly in Juba, Lainya and Yei counties in Central Equatoria - to bring lasting improvements in a country that has emerged from decades of civil war.

Plan Sierra Leone

Plan has been working in Sierra Leone since 1976, helping poor children to access their rights to education, health, livelihood, sanitation and protection.

Our programmes benefit 7,000 children in 1,126 communities across the country.

Currently, we are focusing our efforts on tackling malaria. Sierra Leone has one of the world’s highest infant mortality rates, and 70% of these deaths are caused by the disease. We are implementing a malaria prevention and control project with the help of an investment by the European Commission and Plan Germany of more than 1,000,000 euros over a 5 year period.

Plan Senegal: what we do

Plan’s work in Senegal covers 4 core areas:
  • quality learning for children and youth
  • child protection
  • a safe and healthy environment
  • social and economic leadership for youth and women.
We focus on improving educational facilities by constructing, rehabilitating and equipping classrooms, as well as training teachers, so that children can receive a quality education.

Plan also supports the use of alternative educational systems, such as Koranic and Arabic schools, which are appreciated by families, especially in rural areas. Additionally we strive to increase the success rate of children completing their studies, and increase the enrolment number of children into school each year, at primary school, especially for girls.

Plan Senegal

Plan has been operating in Senegal since 1982, helping poor children to access their rights to education, health and protection.

Our programmes benefit 37,000 children in 600 communities across Senegal.

Currently, we are focusing on a programme for the care and protection of thousands of underprivileged children in the suburban areas of Dakar, in collaboration with local non-governmental organisations, including the ‘centre de Sauvegarde’ – a practical learning centre to teach underprivileged children skills in 'hands on' professions.
