Plan Tanzania: what we do

Plan Tanzania’s work covers 5 key areas, all of which are rooted in the rights of the child:

• Safe environment for children and youth
• Fair start in Early Childhood Care and development (ECCD)
• Healthy life
• Children and youth voice
• Household economic security (KUJIKIMU)

Plan started working in Tanzania in 1991. We have a presence in 5
regions; Dar Es Salaam, Coast, Ifakara (Morogoro), Geita and Mwanza. In addition, some of our programs are designed to have a national reach through advocacy, media and partnership.

Our longer term Country Goals is, Children and Youth are Empowered, Respected and Responsible.  Under this goal, Plan Country Programs are designed to correspond with the four pillars of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - CRC.

Children's voices

In all aspects of Plan’s work, we value children's ability and right to participate in decisions about issues that affect them.

Children represent about a third of the world's population. Providing opportunities for children and young people to articulate their views and access information is integral to Plan's work, including children's involvement with media projects.

Case study Plan and Nokia: Giving African children a voice

From radio shows to child helplines, watch the video to see how Plan's partnership with Nokia is helping children across Africa to speak out on child rights and bring about change.

Although there are 2 billion people under the age of 18 in the world they often have few opportunities to express themselves. Plan operates child media programmes in more than 30 countries worldwide to help children speak out on issues that matter to them using various mediums - such as radio, music and video.

The programmes give children the opportunity to gain self-confidence, make their voice heard and drive change in their community.
